Great Bay Kids' Company

History
The Newmarket Community Action Council for Day Care Centers, Inc. was incorporated in September of 1967 as a non-profit organization. As stated in the original Articles of Agreement, "the council was formed to establish and maintain a day care center for pre-school children, to conduct a program of education, training and group experiences suitable for such children and to stimulate interest in the center as a function of the community". The center was funded through community fund raising and a grant from the Spaulding-Potter Charitable Trust.
Due to a growing need for child care in the Exeter area, the agency opened a second child care center on 261 Water Street in January of 1975. The agency leased the building from Phillips Exeter Academy until May of 1992 when our Exeter program moved into its current location on 13 School Street, a building we lease from the Exeter School District.
In February of 1980, the Board of Directors voted to change the name of the corporation to Newmarket/Exeter Child Care Centers, Inc. in order to reflect the locations of each site. In January of 1997, our agency once again changed our name to reflect the growth of the agency. The board and staff worked together to brainstorm our current name -- Great Bay Kids' Company, Inc.
In 1990, our agency began operating a school age program in Exeter which grew into two school age programs -- Action Club Juniors for children in grade one and two at Main Street School and Action Club Seniors for children in grades three through five at Lincoln Street School. In 2008, we began operating a school age program at the Newfields Elementary School – Newfields Action Club for children in grades kindergarten through five. In order to meet the child care needs of families with younger children, we started a Toddler Program for children ages 2-3 at our Exeter Center in September of 2008.
In response to a growing need in the Portsmouth Community, we collaborated with Two International Group to build a new center on Pease International Tradeport for children 6 weeks – 5 years of age. The new facility opened in January of 2010 with a capacity of 200 + children.
