Child Development Center

The Child Development Center of Strafford County, Inc. traces its roots back more than 25 years. We have archives which show that services were being provided to Developmentally Disabled children, through a play group staffed with volunteers, as early as 1969. In 1974 formal status as a nonprofit organization was sought and received. Today, more than 40 children from Strafford County, Rockingham County and York County (ME) are served by over 50 Teachers, Therapists, Nursing Staff, Educational Technicians and Administrative Staff. We operate a year round school that is evaluated and approved by the NH Department of Education and Maine Child Developmental Service. We serve children ages three to twenty, who are enrolled in one of three programs: Preschool/Kindergarten, Educational Services, or Deaf Education. In addition to the traditional therapies, we also provide Aquatic, Hippotherapy, and Horticultural Therapies, Job Coaching, and integration with the Spaulding High School STEP Program. We have established intern programs that allow typical students the opportunity to contribute at the Center. These programs are currently in place with the Creteau Vocational Center, The Rochester Middle School, and the Carlson Alternative School, as well as UNH, UNE, McIntosh and NH Community Technical Colleges.
